You Matter

Purple happens to be one of my favorite colors so needless to say, this purple plant always caught my attention. We passed this so many times going to places but it’s hard to stop when you are in a vehicle intending to go somewhere. It was within walking distance from the apartment (about 5 blocks) so I decided to go take a walk with my daughter after we dropped my son off at the Youth group he attends. I suppose yesterday was the appointed day to check out this sidewalk plant because I went there at just the perfect time to catch other creatures that also decided to pay it a visit. If I had gone some other day, things would have been different.

To us, insects are just insects and we are so used to the thought that everything works the way it does because it has always been that way. We don’t really bother to think that these living creatures have had the ability to fly before men even thought of aeronautics, yes, men who think they know more than God!

God knows every detail. He knew that yesterday, I was going to take a walk to take a picture of this purple plant and that I was going to bring my daughter with me who happens to love ladybugs. What’s interesting was, after I was done taking the pictures, the little creatures seem to have vanished. Their momentary presence served its purpose. I’m not claiming all this to say we’re special (and WE ALL ARE!), but it’s merely mentioning a fact that God cares about every detail that goes on in the lives of everything He has created and that includes you.

Everything may seem peaceful and tranquil in this part of the world and you may even be one of those who ask, “Where is God when there is destruction everywhere?” But what if being put in that circumstance is the only way for people to really ever stop and think about God? It sure made you ask about God, didn’t it? The things that force us to stop and think may seem bad to us, but it’s God’s way of getting people to a receptive condition to know about Him. It doesn’t help that there are soooo many things (philosophies and ideologies) vying for  our attention.

God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Acts 17:24-31

“For He says: I heard you in an acceptable time, and I helped you in the day of salvation. Look, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation.”

  1. There is nothing whatsoever that you write that has the slightest to do with nihilism. You make preposterous assertions without any evidence, yet you think this somehow contradicts nihilism?

    1. Hi there! Please enlighten me with your exact definition of nihilism. Also, can you be more specific about the assertions I made in this post without evidence? Thanks.

    2. Nihilism, like all beliefs, is more of an orientation, a general understanding, than a unitary set of precepts.
You run through a list of fictions about a deity that make no sense to a non-believer, which is your right to do (you paid the money to WordPress), but you should understand that others read your assertions about “purple” as utter nonsense.
Nihilism is the way to get at the truths about existence based on the evidence of social, intellectual, and existential reality, and it’s fun for everybody, and completely free.
You feel compelled to use the fossil-fuel servers of the Internet to flood the world with your “God”-proclamations, but when you attack nihilism, you are going too far.

      – I was expecting a traditional cut and paste definition like this one – The rejection of all religious and moral principles, in the belief that life is meaningless. The belief that nothing in the world has a real existence. Yet, you chose to define it in a way that sugarcoats the reality of a belief in life without meaning. It’s expected.

You can critique me sharing about purple since favorite things are subjective. I was honestly thinking you’d have a problem with my title since it’s asserting the importance/value of one’s existence or maybe my proclamation about insects flying before people knew about aeronautics but maybe that proved too meaningful.

My post did serve its purpose. You could have chosen to ignore it but you didn’t. That’s something. I have every right to counter a dejected ideology such as nihilism with the truth of the gospel. Just because you hurl antagonistic words at me for doing so is not reason enough for me to stop. I’m proclaiming it and it’s solely at one’s discretion on what to do with it.
      Take Care.
