Nosedive: Reality

My brother took this precious photo just a week ago when he visited my family. This was taken in Portland. We don’t know these people. We don’t even know if these women know each other. Possibly tourists using their phones to get around town? It looks quite coordinated doesn’t it? It’s not. That’s why this photo really captures my attention.

I entitled my post “Nosedive,” an episode of “Black Mirror” which shares the same title, something I’ve seen awhile back but never got around to write about. It is set at a time where everyone goes by number ratings conducted through a tap on one’s smartphone with connectivity to Social Media. I honestly think the concept is not far fetched since it IS our society’s reality even when we don’t care to admit it. The number system in a nutshell is pretty much the same as the “Feedback loop” that Sean Parker and Chamath Palihapitiya talked about– the exploitation of human psyche and people’s need for approval.

As a Christian, another thing I get from the image above is the indication of the nearness of Christ’s return. It is something that is telling of the preconditioning of the masses not to be able to exist without technology and though it falls into much speculation as we speak-it only gets clearer as things unfold, this technology will soon be embedded into the person’s right hand or forehead, one which enables a person to make any transaction (Revelation 13:16-17).

Since mainstream media is saturated with smokescreens, I recently just learned about the near completion of India’s population database Aadhaar. The difference between India’s Aadhaar and the Social Security number is that the Aadhaar once led to scrapping the value of tangible currency in order to usher to a cashless society. Although most people use debit cards in the US (I can honestly say I barely carry cash in my wallet), stores still accept cash.

The current population in India is close to 1.4 billion people, close to 1/6 of the world’s total population. What a perfect opportunity to conduct testing on such great magnitude. China, with a current population comparable to India, has their own Social Credit System also being implemented.

Back to Nosedive, I believe the whole of Social Media and all of the world population’s willing participation to the point of addiction to this machination is the ultimate test. What we now have is clearly the precursor. It is only a matter of time. The question is, how much time do we Christians have left to resist?

  1. A couple of years ago, on the first day of school, I saw a group of students waiting for the school bus, sitting on the curb with their heads bowed. “How nice,” I thought, “praying together before they go off to school.” Then I saw the devices in their hands. J.

    1. It is sad. I was especially addicted to chatrooms when I was a teenager back in the 90ś. Even as an adult, I still have a degree of addiction to the internet. Being connected is an absolute must with banking, shopping etc. Making a conscious effort to wean myself has been hard and since being wired is ubiquitous, it is much harder to see it has comparable destructive effects as narcotics with withdrawal symptoms.

  2. Great post! I still have a flip phone for this exact reason 🙂 I don’t want the internet with me where ever I go-I felt convicted of Face book about 3 years ago and quit. I do like word press and the Christian friends I have found through blogging ❤

    1. Thanks! I do appreciate WP as well but my presence here is dwindling. I find I only write when I feel strongly and moved about a certain topic. Kinda hard for me to write something just because. However, being that we are truly living in super serious times, I have to reassess my lax attitude and just try to focus more on getting God’s Word to post which you are doing quite a great job. The youtube video on the post has Christians in India wondering whether they are facing something straight out of the book of Revelation, where if they don’t get their Biometric ID, they can neither buy nor sell. Truly scary times.

      Wow! We are truly in scary times and we are blessed to be shown that-there are many that don’t believe it 😦

      Yesterday was a little trying for me but I was lifted up by a Christian brother and that is what we need to do for each other in our Christian "community" ~ praying more want to join with us in worshiping and trusting the ONE TRUE GOD as they are drawn by the Lord to see what we have been blessed to see 🙂

    3. I am blessed by your encouragement Elizabeth, Thank you truly. I was almost, well not truly but almost, in some Christian circle here in WP once upon a time. My experience here is that things are great until you confront someone about something that does not line up with scripture. I don’t think it got really ugly. I do try to be civil but the act can easily be seen as offensive. We as Christians are supposed to help each other grow but most people here would rather not address serious and damning doctrinal beliefs so they can continue in the fellowship.

      I am glad to hear you are taking comfort with people here in WP but should you encounter what I am talking about, please do not choose to stay in a false fellowship and compromise God’s Word, which I trust that you won’t. Sometimes, the pull of friendship can muddy our full allegiance to God.
