Ultimately Nothing But Two Choices

Today, I awoke to an illustration of 2 springs of water. Also in the dream I saw a man who basically had to make a choice which spring to get water from. The spring on the right ran a natural, untampered course. The water that ran through that spring wasn’t as pristine as one would like it if it were to be ingested. The one on the left however, had a woman standing above where the water started welling from. She didn’t look like any ordinary woman. She looked to be a Hindu deity. The image I saw in the dream was more R-rated. She wasn’t naked but somehow her form was visible and very attractive to any man. The female deity started to descend on the springing water on the left and she blew something into the water to make it crystal clear. And then my alarm rang.

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.”

1 Timothy 4:1-2

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”

2 Timothy 4:3-4

The gospel is diluted and convoluted by those who want to contort it to their own misconceptions and reconcile it with their sin nature, capitalizing only on grace and deliberately ignoring the issue of living under God’s standard of righteousness. This is far from being Christian in any way, shape, or form so don’t be deceived. Some people who identify as a liberal Christian believe other religions call to the same God when in fact, the bible states in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” That name is Jesus Christ.

People think that they can play a part in making the gospel look attractive to the world. To any professing Christian who believes this, nothing you do (if you truly belong to the Lord) will attract the world (John 15:19). One might think beauty, something that clearly appeals to the physical nature of fallen man, coupled with feel good lingo will attract the world which then taints the gospel with sensuality, not necessarily sexual but clearly that which appeals to the senses. You see the problem here?

While consistency and integrity unquestionably draw people to be curious about one’s faith, one has to remember that it is not originating from humanity (Isaiah 64:6),  but rather, the Holy Spirit within the person who empowers the believer to act consistently with what they profess (John 15:5). This is genuinely attractive to those who are destined to inherit salvation and though the invitation is extended to all, sadly not all will respond (Luke 14:15-24).

As with everything, we ultimately only have two legitimate choices, good or evil, right or wrong, left or right, this or that, and most especially, God or mammon. There will come a time when we find ourselves at a spiritual fork. Which way do we go? To the left or to the right? Do you wonder about the origin of the word “right”? Not only does this word mean the opposite of left, but one of its definitions include being the “correct” choice (Matthew 25:33-34). I hope that you will choose God and the only way to God is none other than Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Any other choice presented to us aside from the two is where the illusion comes in. Jesus Himself told us in Matthew 6:24,

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

While the verse mentions money specifically, the concept is applicable to any choice we make. Will we choose God over something else- our dreams and aspirations, our desires, our sense of self?

The gospel is Christ-centered, not self-centered.

“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse!”

Galatians 1:8
