Picking up on my mention of one’s lot from yesterday’s post, we are warned in Revelation 13:10,
“If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.”
None of us knows what our lot in life will be that is why we are urged to be ready at all times, but God has repeatedly shown us in Scripture that He protects those who are His in Psalm 91, The Passover, Noah and the Ark, Lot, Rahab, Daniel and his three friends, the prophets who were hidden in the cave who did not bow to Baal, Peter’s release from a death sentence, David from King Saul & Absalom etc.
While I believe in the rapture of the church, it does not state in the bible anywhere that Jesus will have a semi Second Coming where He is suspended in the clouds as the body of Christ ascend to meet Him prior to the tribulation. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing I would like but for that to happen right now but the passages below lay out a specific sequence of events that has to happen first.
“Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.”
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
We worship a God of infinite possibilities and we cannot dare limit the scenario as to how exactly He protects believers from wrath, “and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath…” as stated in 1 Thessalonians 1:10 to simply being raptured before the tribulation. That is like putting God in a box.
One of the biblical accounts that I love reading about is Philip being teleported to Azotus.
“And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?” 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39 And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing. 40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he preached the gospel to all the towns until he came to Caesarea.”
With all that’s going on right now, as you go to sleep, imagine waking up somewhere God has taken His church within the world. Is it possible? Yes. Is it biblical? Absolutely Yes! That being said, I believe the Body of Christ will be protected from the tribulation without necessarily being raptured out of the Earth; it’s definitely possible. Just think about Philip, then there’s the repeat teleporter, Elijah (2 Kings 2:16, 1 Kings 18:7-12).
