Music For The Newly Converted Soul

ccm

When reading God’s Word, context is everything. The same can be said about music; lyrics is everything. There is such thing as diatribe cloaked in pleasant and lively sounding melodies which people easily digest in what we call as secular music. While not all secular music are created equal, we can say most of it is not edifying to a believer in Christ.

Been thinking about weaning yourself from secular music? You’ve come to the right place. If you happen to be in the < 40 age demographic, you might find some of the songs below of interest to you (or not but that’s okay too). This is a mixed genre list, not comprehensive but rather my personal favorites over the years. Some are newer and some are old but I never grow tired of hearing them. Well maybe, but only when I keep playing them over and over.

If you happen to be a new believer, the moment you gave your life to Christ, He gave you a new song in your heart. It’s hard saying goodbye to secular music (I’ve been there) but you need to make a conscious effort to stop intaking sugarcoated diatribes (in your own timing and volition of course) and replace it with more edifying alternatives consistent with your new walk.

“I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”
Psalm 146:2
